A small object can change the room.

Pebble Theatre is an independent international company founded by Selina Hsung-Chih Tseng and Lalia Bron, created to make work that crosses borders and reflects many cultures at once.

Our story

We take our name from the pebble: overlooked, yet capable of ripples.

Our work centres on transforming commonly found objects, daily materials and culturally familiar elements into the protagonists of our performances. Like pebbles on the ground, these things are rarely noticed — and we are committed to giving them significance, visibility and a voice.

As an international ensemble with members from East Asia and Europe, we are drawn to how the same everyday material can carry very different meanings across cultures. In Between Strands it was hair; in Out of the Bin it is the waste we discard without thinking.

Looking ahead, we hope to tour each project back to the hometowns of our ensemble — returning stories to the cultural contexts that shaped them, and building dialogue with communities across different countries.

How we make work

Collaboration, experimentation, and passion.

Rehearsals are built on trial and error, continual reflection and collective decision-making. We value active listening and shared authorship — because while a single pebble seems small, many together generate real force.

The founders

Two practices, one company

Selina Hsung-Chih Tseng

Co-founder · Performer, writer & lighting technician

Selina is a London-based Taiwanese theatre maker, playwright and lighting technician who holds an MA in Performance Making from Goldsmiths, University of London. Her interdisciplinary practice spans physical theatre, installation and text, with a focus on transforming everyday objects into carriers of memory and cultural meaning.

Her path began in ballet, visual art and literature. In 2020 she co-founded an English drama camp in Taiwan, using theatre as a platform for language learning and identity, and since 2022 she has worked across Taiwan and the UK as a lighting technician and stage manager — bringing a strong technical and collaborative foundation to the company.

Lalia Bron

Co-founder · Performer & writer

Lalia is a performer born in Geneva, raised in Spain and trained in London at the Giles Foreman Centre for Acting. Her multicultural background shapes a practice grounded in empathy, curiosity and cross-cultural awareness, and she approaches acting as an act of presence — attentive listening, vulnerability, and genuine connection between performer and audience.

She is drawn to projects that engage with social consciousness and ethical responsibility, inviting audiences to reflect without prescribing meaning. Her academic background in International Relations informs an ongoing interest in cultural dialogue and global perspectives.
